Bonaire tourist tax
As of July 1, 2024, Bonaire replaces its previous lodging and car rental taxes with a new visitor entry tax for arrivals by sea and air. You can pay in person or online up to seven days before your arrival.
Who pays the tourism tax in Bonaire?
All tourists are required to pay the visitor tax. However, travelers re-entering Bonaire within one month (common for those who are island hopping) are exempt from paying again provided they present their QR code together with valid identification. Additionally, passengers transferring through Bonaire and leave within 24 hours are exempt. Bonaire residents and students studying abroad are also exempt, provided they show proof such as a Bonaire Sedula or RCN-studiefinanciering documentation.
Exemptions include:
- Transit passengers: Those transferring through Bonaire and leaving within 24 hours.
- Returning tourists: Those who are re-entering within a month
- Residents: Local residents and students studying abroad with valid documentation.
How to pay the Bonaire tourist tax?
To ensure your arrival is as smooth as possible, we recommend paying the tourist tax online, which can be done up to seven days before your arrival. By completing this process in advance, you will receive a digital QR code that allows you to bypass longer queues and utilize the e-gates. If there are any technical issues or you prefer to handle it in person, then you can also ‘pay at the kiosk’ upon arrival, please be aware that these stations do not accept cash; all payments must be settled using either a credit card or iDEAL.
Quick Reference Guide
- Recommended: Pay online up to 7 days before arrival to save time.
- On site option: Kiosks are available for payment upon arrival.
- Payment Methods: Credit card or iDEAL only (no cash accepted)
